"The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude. No big laboratory is needed in which to think. Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us to cripple the creative mind. Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born."
Hello, my name is Verne Arnold, welcome to my website. I live in Thailand and I write and self-publish my books.
At this time I have two finished books and two in progress. I have chapter I of my first book at the "Elephants" tab and chapter I of my second book "Phra Jan" at the Phra Jan tab.
Phra Jan is a fable/myth taking place in the
distant past of Thailand.
At this time there is not yet a moon and the story deals with its coming into
being. There are five main characters and the two leading characters are women.
One, Khun Ya, is old, and very wise, with many surprises; and the other; Mew,
is young, sensitive, curious and adventurous. Throughout the book will be
original Thai art in an ancient style referred to as from the Himmaphan
Forest. That art is being
done as I write this by a very talented Thai artist who is an expert in this
style.
As a self published author I do everything except the physical printing of the books. For those interested; I am posting the process on my blog which is linked to this website. I'm now in the last stage with a book at the printers and due to finish about the week of May 25th.
When my book is finished it will be available from this site in three formats; paperback , electronic DL, and a CD. If requested; I will sign paperbacks and CD's ordered from this website.
25-05-09 I picked up 560 books from the printer today, almost 6 months to the day after I first took it to them in December. It's been a long road with many curves. The quality is first rate.
06-06-09 I'm having major problems with Thai banks approving a PayPal connection; not sure how to deal with this. More later, I hope.
06-08-09 I have removed my book from Amazon's Kindle. I did this for a number of reasons; first, I decided I didn't like the unsolicited discounting of my book; second, full color illustrations look terrible in a black and white format and especially on the Kindle; third, I don't like Amazon having total control over MY book; after all, I did everything except the actual printing. I did the removal with great difficulty because they have no provision for removing or unpublishing a book once it's downloaded to their site. I did this before the recent kerfuffle over Owell's 1984. That just furthers my resolve that I have made the correct decision.
